Gallipoli to Kusadasi

Friday, 3rd June 2011

A long, long bus drive today. Left Eceabat Hotel at 12 noon, caught the ferry to Cannakkale. This is a short 15 minute trip on a new ferry. You can see our hotel as we leave Eceabat and

Note the Gallipoli Monument is at the dockside

This is the view to Cannakale

Nearing Cannakale.

A nice piece of Real Estate is in the water

We then joined a big bus - about 20 passengers in total so plenty of room, but we had allocated seats this time.

We drove along the seaside for part of the journey, and then wound our way up through the hills and down again, quite hair raising at times, but once again the skill of the Turkish professional driver was on show.

This bus is on a commercial route and runs every 40 minutes. It took us 6 1/2 hours to arrive at our hotel. During that time we had two rest stops for 20 minutes each.

The bus had the driver and a conductor. At several times throughout the journey we were given small bottles of water and at one point tea or coffee and a packet of snacks. The funniest part was towards the end of the journey the conductor stood next to each seat with the 1 litre bottle of lemon handwashing disinfectant. He poured a generous amount in and moved on. It did evaporate eventually, leaving a very antiseptic odour.

The last stop is where I have had the worst cup of coffee in the world. It arrived black and when I asked for milk, I was offered a container with powder in it. Assuming it to be Coffee Mate, I put 3 generous teaspoons in, but it did not change the colour. It tasted foul. I found out later that they had run out of milk and assumed we would not know the difference if we were given artificial sweetener. OMG!!!

Relaxing outside the hotel.

The Hotel was a very nice surprise, it is in Kusadasi, which is the Harbour City. As you can see, we have wonderful waterfront views from the balcony.

A really nice place to sit, relax and enjoy yet another Efes beer.
