Saturday, 28th MayI woke up this morning with a sore throat and runny nose, not a good start to the day. Steven and Elanda met us early and we took a drive into Stratford and spent the day roaming around.
Stratford is very geared for tourists, with many shops to entice your dollars away. Elanda took Andy to Lakeland which is a Kitchen Place. As she described it, they make you want to think you can't live without another gadget. Would you believe you can buy a banana shaped container to prevent your banana from bruising in your lunch box? I don't think so! But yes, Andy did find a toy or two here.

Check out the fancy lamp post

I have a special affinity with owls you see

Surely you jest ...

Guess what, more canals, I know by now you are probably sick of hearing about them.

Photo opportunity

Stratford has a plethora of gorgeous old buildings

Don't you love this espaliered wisteria?

An authentic "Tudor" house.

As you would expect the Royal Shakespeare Company has a very impressive building

This old building is where you can take brass rubbings. Not open today, but great vantage for a photo

The avenue of trees leading from the graveyard to the church housing Shakespeare's grave

Very historic graveyard

Beautifully framed ... awhhh! This one is for your wall Mark!

You can't visit Stratford and not have a look at Shakespeare's grave.

My little soldiers

Yet another grand old Church, this time not as fancy, but built in 1289 AD. I particularly liked this one!

We considered taking a ride on the barges, but the weather turned out very cold, windy and wet. So we found lots of eateries instead. We had lunch at Carluccio's, the same chain of Italian Restaurants we first found in Dubai. Fantastic food, and great coffee. Then off to see more wonderful architecture.

Andy then took a trip down memory lane and we visited Coventry where he lived from age 3-7. We visited his grandmother's house in Baginton and then had a look at the house he lived in. It is the house behind him on the corner

We then drove to Coventry Cathedral where they have built the new cathedral next to the ruins of the original. Stark contrast between old and new. The new cathedral shows the old one in its reflection

For your convenience!

We are having a quiet night in tonight, with Pizza and a beer. There is a wedding in the Hotel in one dining room and the Manchester United vs Barcelona Football match in the other bar. From the sublime to the ridiculous. Steven and Elanda will meet us for breakfast tomorrow and come with us to the airport for the flight to Turkey. We are definitely having a "slow" day tomorrow.
