York - wonderful York!

Tuesday 24th May - York

We started the day by finding a parking spot in York, down by the river - 6 pound for 3 hrs ... hmmm. We later found long stay parking at 3 pound for the day - come in spinner!

Our first delight of the day was the Perky Peacock as noted yesterday, really friendly people, great food and fantastic coffee. The weather was gorgeous, if a bit on the windy side.

A leisurely stroll along the canals, over bridges through the town, and we stumbled upon Newgate Market. Beautiful fresh fruit and vegies, lots of plants and the usual market stuff. Of course a small financial contribution was made on my part.

We then visited The Shambles, I know Sherylyn will be delighted to hear this. What a wonderful avenue of interesting and different shops. In and out, looking at this and that.

I couldn't resist a photo of The Barnfathers of York Shop for you Bev.

York's biggest attraction of course is the York Minster, an enormous and beautiful church and the largest Gothic Church in the Northern Hemisphere. Breakthtakingly beautiful, fabulous stained glass windows, carvings, organ ... and of course hand made tapestry prayer kneeling cushions shown below.

After the Minster, we wandered through the York Museum Gardens, filled with wonderful landscapes and relics everywhere.

On our way back to the car, we thought of you Bronwyn, this rather impressive boat is named after you - a bit hard to read the writing but trust me :-)

From York we headed off to Hull ... more adventures to come
